SMG and SAVOR Bring Energy and Renewal to Century Center

Did you go to the prom at Century Center? Do you have memories of walking down the grand staircase with your high school sweetheart on your arm, wearing a tux the shade of a robin’s egg?

SMG Worldwide, the new management company hired to revamp the facility, wants to create new memories as it improves Century Center – a building that anchors the downtown and identifies the city through its architecture and prominent location on the St. Joseph River.

With experience running 200 venues across the world, including McCormick Place in Chicago, SMG is concentrating on bringing people and business to Century Center.

 

Here’s What’s New:

  • A commitment to the community. Whether it’s working with Greening the Bend to install a garden roof or collaborating with Downtown South Bend for a new event showcasing the downtown, SMG wants to work hand in hand with its partners to increase the economic impact of the center.

  • Promoting The South Bend Alliance. Century Center is taking the lead in the formation of a small group with a goal of using the facility to generate and maximize economic benefit to the community through the use of conventions and tourism.

  • SAVOR. A new concept in catering that promotes local farmers and local products whenever possible. Chef Rory Bancroft comes to our kitchen from one in Lake Tahoe, but as someone raised in the Midwest, he understands the value of excellent service and authentic cuisine. SMG has undertaken major kitchen renovations the past few months to offer guests a superior product.

  • Sightlines. A collaboration between The South Bend Museum of Art and Century Center featuring large artworks created by selected artists from the region.

  • Accountability. The Capital Improvement assessment, conducted in July and August by Ryan Thorpe, Regional Director of Operations, McCormick Place, SMG, noted that the facility has been maintained extremely well and is rated in very good overall condition. Some future needs: replacement of chairs, tables, the dance floor and staging.

  • Consolidation. Our company offers everything you need under one roof. We work together to offer the best event possible, from providing state-of-the art technological needs to luxurious linens.

  • Longevity and Continuity. While SMG is a new management company, many of our staff members have been here a long time and know every inch of the facility. The combined number of years our longest employees have served: 232 years!
